President Muhammadu Buhari received an august guest at the statehouse on Tuesday, December 8. President Buhari welcomes his counterpat from Benin Republic. The Nigerian president welcomed his counterpart from the Republic of Benin, MrBoni Yayi. The full details of the visit have not been disclosed, however, there are speculation that the meeting of the two leaders is to strengthen the relationship between both countries. President Buhari has in recent times been traveling to various countries for diverse purposes, the most prominent of reasons being to establish a cordial relationship between Nigeria and the international community.
There are many who are opposed to the fact, they claim that the Nigerian president needs to pay more attention to developments within the country other than always being away.
However, Senator Shehu Sani, the deputy chairman of the Senate committee on foreign affairs, has said the mixed reactions regarding the presidents foreign trips are on called for.
Sani argues that only ignorant people will complain about the president’s foreign visits, stressing that the president’s trips are very necessary for him to work out a programme for the economy.
