Opposition Parties Saved Nigeria - Buhari

book launch
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the coming together of opposition parties in 2014 saved the country from collapse which the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had put the country.
The president and others during the official unveiling of the book at the at the Yar-Adua Conference Centre Abuja on Monday, December 7, 2015
The Action Congress of Nigeria, the Congress for Progressive Change and the All Nigeria Peoples Party came together to form the All Progressives Congress. Buhari under the platform of the party eventually defeated the PDP to emerge as the first president from an opposition party.
President Buhari thanked Onu for writing the book and said it would teach a lot of Nigerians not to make the same mistakes made in the past.
“I want to thank Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, because what is missing is history.
“People must tell the history of our development politically, not only economically, because one significant thing, especially, about Nigeria is that we are inclined to refuse to learn from other peoples’ mistakes.
“We insist on making our own mistakes all the time.
“But with books like this by Ogbonnaya Onu and intellectual politicians, our future generations will be saved the time and torture of going over the mistakes of the previous generations.
“For this, I thank him very much and I certainly wish to congratulate him.
“And he is not the Minister of Science and Technology for nothing. Having known him earlier on as a scientist, I think the biggest challenge is to give him the ministry and see how much of a scientist he remains.’’
The former vice president, Atiku Abubakar who was the chairman of the event said the book was a story of determination and sacrifice in the march towards a better Nigeri.
Onu said the book would help other politicians to avoid mistakes made by old politicians.
