Jonathan’s administration linked to $9.6bn P&ID debt as Buhari orders probe

The Federal Government has linked the contract which led to a judgement debt of $9.6billion (N3.5trillion) to the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

It also protested against the award of the judgment debt and claimed that it cannot stand.

Consequently, President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Inspector-General of Police to probe the criminal conspiracy behind the failed contract.

The government said the contractor, Pocess and Industrial Developments Ltd. (P&ID) did not execute the contract

The government made the clarifications on Tuesday at a joint briefing in Abuja by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed alongside the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

Mohammed said: “We have invited you here today to brief you on the recent judgement of a UK Court authorizing Process and Industrial Developments Ltd. (P&ID) to seize 9.6 billion dollars in Nigerian assets, over a contract entered into by the company and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources in 2010.

“We will quickly run you through the issues at stake as well as what the Nigerian government is doing to stave off any seizure of its assets. We do hope that by the time we conclude this briefing, the media would have been better informed on the whole issue, hence will be better placed to inform Nigerians and clear the misrepresentations in certain circles.

“The judgement that was delivered on Friday, 16 August 2019 is a fallout of the contract purportedly entered into in 2010 between the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and P&ID. Please note that in the 20-year Gas Supply Processing Agreement (GSPA) purportedly entered into with the P&ID in 2010, the company never performed as agreed.”

YOBE: Relief for 279 LG retirees as Gov Buni approves payment of N365m accumulated pension arrears

Relief has come the way of 279 local government retirees in Yobe State, after Governor Mai Mallam Buni approved the payment of the sum of N365,586,246.45 for accumulated pension arrears and gratuities owed them.

That much information was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director-General for Press Affairs to the Governor, Abdullahi Bego, in the state capital, Damaturu.

Governor Buni also noted in the statement that the amount is batch 36 in the long list of benefit payments to retired local government workers.

He further assured that the payment of the benefits of local government retirees will remain a continuous exercise.

Governor Buni said; “Of the 279 beneficiaries, 71 are deceased and their benefits, amounting to N110, 830, 156.75, will be handed over to their next of kin through the probate division of the State High Court, while the sum of N254, 756, 089.70 will be electronically paid directly to the remaining 208 living retirees.

“Some may recall that on July 4th, 2019, Governor Buni had approved the sum of N228, 914, 250.19 for the payment of the benefits of another batch of l98 local government retirees,” he added.

Sultry Nollywood actress Monalisa Chinda has finally opened up on her running battle with the law after several orders by a Lagos High Court calling for her arrest over alleged tax evasion.

The thespian who explained the details of the incidents that led to the call for her arrest by the Lagos court, confirmed in an interview on YouTube that the case has since been taken up and professionally handled by her lawyers.

According to her, the widely reported and talked-about court orders were related to her failure to file her annual tax returns in respect of her company, Monalisa Code Productions and her failure to appear in court.

The thespian also explained in the interview what convinced her to marry her husband, Victor Tonye Coker, within a month, despite having resolved never to get married again due to previous horrifying experiences.

She said she decided to marry again because she had never experienced true love prior to meeting Coker as she described her three-year-old marriage as one filled with truth, freedom and friendship, but not without fights.

As operation to rescue eight persons abducted by gunmen on the premises of Nigerian-Turkish International Colleges intensifies, police operatives say they have laid low to give the kidnappers a chance to release the victims by weekend.

Reliable sources on Thursday that security agents had garnered enough insights into the movements of the suspects in the creeks, following the arrest of the masterminds of the kidnap.

A top police officer said the team might advance into the creeks if the kidnappers failed to surrender the victims within 48 hours (Saturday).
